For a game that once peaked at over 450,000 concurrent Steam players, the timing aims to win back goodwill and stabilize performance-heavy late-game battles.

DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and XeSS 3.0: Upscaling for Every GPU

On PC, the Optimizing Liberty patch brings Helldivers 2 upscaling support to every major GPU vendor in one sweep. NVIDIA users get DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, while AMD owners see FSR 4.0.3 on RDNA 4 and RDNA 3, with FSR 3.1.5 as a fallback for older Radeon cards. Intel Arc players gain Intel XeSS 3.0, closing a long-standing gap that left many mid-range GPUs struggling at higher resolutions. This broad coverage matters because upscaling lets the game render fewer pixels while reconstructing a sharp, detailed frame, leading to frame rate improvement without a major loss in clarity. The update also adds Variable Rate Shading, which focuses detail where the eye looks, and Dynamic Resolution Scaling, which adjusts internal resolution on the fly to keep performance from collapsing in chaotic firefights and large-scale bug breaches.

Reduced Input Lag with NVIDIA Reflex and AMD Anti-Lag 2

Beyond raw frame rate, the new gaming performance patch targets responsiveness. NVIDIA Reflex arrives for GeForce users, cutting system latency by tightening the path from input to on-screen response. On the Radeon side, AMD Anti-Lag 2 offers a similar benefit, trimming the delay between a button press and a bullet leaving the barrel. When combined with DLSS 4.5 FSR 4 or XeSS 3.0 upscaling, this means players can push higher frame rates and reduce input lag at the same time. That combination is particularly important in Helldivers 2, where sudden enemy swarms and friendly fire punish slow reactions. Dynamic Resolution Scaling helps keep latency consistent as action intensity spikes, avoiding the sluggish feel that comes when frames drop mid-battle. The result is a faster, sharper experience that better matches the game’s high-tempo cooperative design.

Console Enhancements: FSR 3.1, PSSR, and VRR

Console players see a parallel set of improvements, even if the branding differs from PC. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S gain FSR 3.1, extending modern Helldivers 2 upscaling to living room setups. PS5 Pro users receive PSSR 1, Sony’s in-house upscaling tool designed to maintain clarity at higher performance modes. Variable Refresh Rate support lands on PS5 and PS5 Pro for compatible displays, smoothing over frame rate dips that used to cause judder and tearing. Arrowhead also raises the “Performance” mode resolution on both PS5 platforms to 1440p, while the “Quality” preset in PS5 Power Saving Mode is increased as well.
