The world’s top wearable makers are actively building healthcare into their product features and branding, aiming to bridge biometric tracking and clinical care. Oura and Whoop are leading this turn, using clinical wearable integration as a core business strategy, not a side experiment. That direction matters because it changes who these companies design for. Instead of chasing fitness enthusiasts, they are designing for patients, clinicians and drug makers who want data that influences therapy, adherence and outcomes.

Oura’s partnership with LillyDirect, Eli Lilly’s direct-to-consumer telehealth platform, is a clear example of GLP-1 patient tracking becoming part of the drug ecosystem. Through this wearable pharma partnership, LillyDirect members can receive complimentary Oura Ring sizing kits and savings on the device, directly tying smart ring healthcare to a prescription journey.
GLP-1 therapies are on track for global adoption of more than 100 million people by 2030, and tens of thousands of Oura members already log their GLP-1 use in the app. In response, Oura launched GLP-1 Insights, letting members log doses, side effects, weight changes and related biometric data in one place, and view that alongside lab results via Lab Uploads. As Oura’s chief medical officer puts it, “By integrating daily habits with real-time biometric insights, we can offer a more connected and personalized approach to support lasting results.” In effect, if GLP-1 drugs are the engine, Oura wants to be the dashboard.

New care models: one journey, not separate tools
The Oura–LillyDirect collaboration highlights a new care model where medication access, behavior change tools and continuous health tracking sit inside a single patient journey, rather than as scattered add-ons. LillyDirect customers can connect to GLP-1 prescriptions and receive behavioral support tools while their ring tracks sleep, activity and recovery in the background.
This directly challenges the traditional “write prescription, see you next visit” mindset. Attention is shifting to what happens between appointments: adherence, side effects, sleep patterns, exercise and stress. One quoted executive states that the goal is to support patients “throughout their entire care journey, not just at the point of prescription,” describing a “more complete ecosystem around the patient.” The collaboration suggests future healthcare will combine pharmaceuticals with continuous feedback loops, helping people understand not only whether a treatment works, but how it changes how they feel and function day to day. Weight becomes one metric among many, not the headline act.
Whoop and the race to clinical integration
Oura is not alone. Whoop is also pushing deeper into prescription health monitoring and clinical wearable integration. It has expanded its presence in healthcare with Whoop Advanced Labs blood testing, Specialized Panels and an integration of electronic health records within its app. The brand recently announced a collaboration with HealthEx, a health platform that will connect medical records and biometric data in one secure place, bridging wearable data and clinical information.
For ordinary users, this means being able to see recovery, strain, sleep and performance metrics in the context of chronic conditions, recent procedures or medication changes and receive more personalized recommendations. Users choose whether to connect their medical records and can see and revoke what is shared, signaling a more explicit data-consent model. Whoop is even subsidizing memberships for eligible healthcare professionals by 50% through a time-limited program, positioning itself as a self-care tool for clinicians as well. This is not a pivot away from consumers; it is a bet that the boundary between consumer and clinical experiences will continue to erode.
The new deal between pharma, wearables and patients
These moves signal a bigger shift: pharma companies are redefining success from “Did the patient fill the prescription?” to “Did the therapy reshape daily life in a sustainable way?” For much of modern medicine, treatment has been organized around single interventions, with success measured at the next appointment. The GLP-1 era and its companion wearables are cracking that model, forcing companies to care about sleep, recovery, stress and long-term adherence as measurable, designable parts of treatment.
Consumer health platforms, shaped by forecasts of more than 100 million GLP-1 users, are expected to evolve around these needs, creating services aimed not only at weight loss but at living better. The collaboration between Oura and LillyDirect suggests healthcare systems will merge pharmaceuticals with continuous feedback loops. Meanwhile, Whoop’s HealthEx integration points toward a future where medical history and continuous biometrics live in one secure interface. The bottom line: wearable pharma partnerships are turning devices into co-prescriptions.
