What Xreal Aura Is and Why This Android XR Launch Matters
Xreal Aura glasses are lightweight, wired spatial computing XR glasses that pair an optical see-through display with an Android XR compute puck, aiming to deliver everyday mixed reality apps, gaming, and AI assistance in a compact form factor. Announced as Xreal’s next-generation OST (optical see-through) device developed with Google and Qualcomm, Aura is confirmed to launch this fall as Google’s second Android XR hardware partner after Samsung. Display and Design: Sony Micro-OLED Displays in a Lightweight Frame
The most eye-catching part of the Xreal Aura glasses is the display system: dual Sony Micro-OLED displays that each render 1,920 x 1,200 pixels at up to 120Hz. Together, they create a 70-degree field of view, which Xreal describes as a “virtually borderless visual canvas” suitable for both productivity and entertainment. Because Aura uses optical see-through glass instead of video passthrough, you see your real surroundings directly, and people can see your eyes through the lenses. When more focus is needed, electrochromic dimming can darken the lenses, allowing the Sony Micro-OLED displays to stand out for movie watching or gaming. The glasses weigh less than 95g, with cameras and world-facing sensors integrated into the frame for 6DoF tracking and hand tracking. This design keeps the on-head hardware minimal while the compute puck carries the heavier components and battery.
Inside the Dual-Chip Architecture: Snapdragon Reality Elite and X1S
Under the hood, Xreal Aura uses a split-compute design built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite platform and Xreal’s own X1S spatial co-processor. The Snapdragon Reality Elite lives inside the puck, running Android XR, system software, and apps, and will be offered in 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB configurations. It also houses a 4,455 mAh (34.84Wh) battery, moving most of the weight off the user’s head. The Xreal X1S chip sits in the glasses themselves, handling low-latency tasks such as spatial display, sensor fusion, and head tracking to keep motion smooth. According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon Reality Elite is “designed to meet… demands” for higher performance, better immersion, and improved power use in XR. This division of labor is aimed at achieving up to around four hours of active use while maintaining responsive tracking and visuals.

Android XR Ecosystem, Gemini AI and Reservation Strategy
Because Aura runs Android XR, it gains immediate access to millions of existing Android phone and tablet apps through the Play Store, along with over a hundred XR-optimized titles already in development. Gemini is built into the system as the default assistant, with voice and hand-tracking input, and Google’s Android XR Catalyst Developer Program is seeding hundreds of Aura dev kits to studios across entertainment, productivity, sports, healthcare, and enterprise. Xreal has opened reservations at Xreal.com with a USD 99 (approx. RM460) deposit that applies USD 199 (approx. RM920) toward the final purchase. A USD 299 (approx. RM1,380) “Founder Priority Pass” tier, capped at 2,000 buyers, guarantees launch-day delivery and numbered hardware. The company says the base Xreal Aura glasses configuration will not exceed USD 1,500 (approx. RM6,920), positioning them below many high-end mixed reality headsets.
Gaming Focus: Fallout and the Future of XR Glasses in Fall 2026
Xreal is pushing a gaming-first message for the XR glasses fall 2026 launch window, using exclusive content to signal long-term developer commitment. Fallout: Factions, a digital version of the tabletop skirmish game, is coming to the Xreal Aura glasses with gesture controls and 3D battlefields overlaid onto a real table, turning Aura into a portable miniature wargaming station. Another title, Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, lets players embody Ryland Grace in a new story segment built with Andy Weir and Amazon MGM Studios, using hand tracking for zero-gravity interactions. Up to five floating app windows, 6DoF tracking, and precise hand input give Android XR developers room to design complex interfaces and strategy games. If these launch titles find an audience, Aura could help establish lightweight Android XR glasses as a serious gaming platform rather than a second-screen accessory.
