From On-Demand Bot to Always-On Slack Agent
Claude Tag replaces the earlier Claude in Slack app with a native agent that stays present in channels and threads. Teams summon it with @claude, but once invited, it continues to follow conversations and work without needing repeated prompts. It can read thread context, break complex requests into steps, and post outputs back into the same discussion, reducing context switching. Unlike typical bots with short memory, it builds channel-level memory so the agent can pick up where the last tagged request ended, even hours or days later. In ambient mode, Claude Tag can surface stalled threads, remind people about unresolved questions, and schedule follow-up tasks for itself. This moves Slack integration away from a simple question-and-answer tool toward an AI workplace assistant that behaves like a colleague who stays in the room, rather than a tool you open and close.
Persistent Memory and Task Surfacing in Everyday Work
Most Slack bots respond in isolation, but Claude Tag is designed to accumulate context over time. It continuously learns from messages in the public channels it can access, tracking decisions, dependencies, and unfinished work. When a teammate asks for a sprint status or a recap across several channels, Claude Tag can draw on that memory without needing a fresh brief. It uses this context to flag unresolved threads, triage backlogs, and prepare call briefings or metrics summaries. With ambient behavior enabled, it can message channels about tasks that seem stuck, or remind users when discussions have stalled before a resolution. According to Gadget Review, Claude Tag maintains “persistent channel memory, learning team context over time without manual re-briefing,” which sets it apart from typical Slack bots and makes it more like a shared knowledge layer woven into day-to-day collaboration.
A Virtual Coworker with Scoped Access and Governance
Claude Tag runs under an agent identity model, appearing in Slack as its own user rather than piggybacking on an employee account. Admins decide which channels it can join, which tools and code repositories it can use, and how much each organization or channel may spend. This setup enables channel-scoped permissions, separate memory for different workspaces, and audit logs for actions and network calls. Role-specific agents are possible, such as separate legal, engineering, or product personas that cannot share context across domains. In channels, usage is billed to the organization, while direct messages with Claude Tag are billed to the individual Claude account, and Anthropic is offering launch credits of USD 25,000 (approx. RM115,000) for Enterprise and USD 2,500 (approx. RM11,500) for eligible Team customers. Governance, not only capability, becomes central as Claude Tag behaves more like a persistent coworker than a disposable chatbot.
