Powered by Codex and GPT-5.6, it can take action across your apps and files, stay with a project for hours if needed, and turn a goal into finished work. The company positions it as a distinct mode inside a unified ChatGPT experience: Chat for quick conversation, Work for multi-step projects, and Codex for coding and technical tasks. This is not a cosmetic upgrade; it is a bid to move from “answering questions” to orchestrating entire workflows. When nearly 100% of teams inside OpenAI are already using this agent and report that it moves faster, takes on harder tasks and finishes them in a few days or hours, the message is clear: they want enterprises to treat ChatGPT as an operational layer, not a sidebar helper.
Multi-step, cross-platform AI tasks without constant context reset
