Flagship chips in thin shells: a thermal mismatch
The core problem is not that foldable phones use powerful chips; it’s that their ultra‑slim, contorted shells give heat nowhere to go. Premium chipsets such as Snapdragon’s top “Elite” tier have been measured hitting up to 49.5°C in conventional flagships. Motorola has already taken over half of the US market share in 2025 without even offering a book‑style foldable, showing how fragile the current lead is.
