Android 17 at a glance: what’s coming and who gets it
Android 17, codenamed Cinnamon Bun, is Google’s next big platform release, bringing visual tweaks, smarter privacy tools, and better multitasking. Across the ecosystem, the Android 17 rollout schedule will span late 2026 into early 2027, with Google Pixel leading, followed by Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Motorola and others. Key new features include system-wide app bubbles for floating windows, a revamped desktop mode with improved window snapping, and lock-screen widgets in a new Hub mode. Privacy gets a boost with a session-based precise location toggle and a system-level Contacts Picker that lets you grant apps access to only specific fields. Camera and performance upgrades include RAW14 support, Photo Picker grid customization, and memory limits that automatically shut down apps leaking RAM. Not every device will support the premium Gemini Intelligence features, but most recent flagships and many mid-range phones will still qualify as Android 17 update phones, gaining the core platform improvements.

Google Pixel: every Android 17 compatible device and day-one rollout
If you’re using a Pixel, the Android 17 rollout schedule is very simple: every Tensor-powered phone and tablet currently in support is confirmed, and all are expected to receive the stable update on day one once Google flips the switch. That includes the Pixel 10 family (10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold and 10a), the entire Pixel 9 line (9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold, 9a), Pixel 8, 8 Pro and 8a, plus older devices like Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. For Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Android 17 is the final major OS update before support ends. Pixel 5a, Pixel 5 and anything older will not get Android 17. Only the Pixel 10 series meets the 12 GB RAM requirement for the full Gemini Intelligence suite; other eligible Pixels still get Android 17 but miss the headline on-device AI features.
Samsung Galaxy: One UI 9 timing for flagship and Galaxy A phones
Samsung’s take on Android 17 arrives as One UI 9, with the Galaxy S26 series already running the beta. These phones (S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra) should be among the first Android 17 update phones from Samsung, with a stable build expected between July and August. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 are set to launch with One UI 9 out of the box, followed by the S25 family and Z Fold 7/Z Flip 7 line from around August to September. Slightly older flagships, including the S24 range and foldables back to Z Fold 5/Z Flip 5, are expected from September through November, while the S23 series will likely see their final major OS update between October and December. Mid-range Galaxy A models such as the A57, A56, A55, A37, A36, A35, A26 and A25 should follow from late 2026 into early 2027, with entry A-series and tablets stretching into 2027. Devices capped at One UI 8.5 will not get Android 17.
OnePlus and other brands: expected Android 17 rollout windows
Beyond Google and Samsung, several manufacturers have either confirmed or already begun testing Android 17 builds. OnePlus is trialling Android 17-based betas on the OnePlus 15, with OxygenOS 17 expected to go stable in early Q4, starting with that flagship. The Android 17 compatible devices list for OnePlus should then extend to the 15R, 13 series (13, 13R, 13s, 13T), 12 and 12R, and older flagships like the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus Open, likely through late 2026 and into Q1 2027. Mid-range Nord models such as Nord 5, Nord 4 and Nord CE 5 are also expected in that window. Other brands, including Xiaomi, Motorola, OPPO, Vivo and Honor, are already running early Android 17 builds on at least one flagship each, though full rollout details are still to come. As with other manufacturers, the newest flagships should receive Android 17 first, with mid-range phones following a few months later.
Should you upgrade or wait? How to decide based on Android 17
When you’re choosing your next phone, knowing which phones get Android 17—and roughly when—is just as important as specs. If you own a recent Pixel or Galaxy flagship, you can safely wait: you’re high on the Android 17 rollout schedule, and the update should arrive within months of the stable release. Owners of older flagships nearing their final OS update, such as late-generation Galaxy S or OnePlus devices, face a crossroads: either enjoy one last major update or treat Android 17 as a good moment to upgrade to a model with longer support. Mid-range buyers should look for clear software policies and confirm that a device is listed among Android 17 compatible devices, so you aren’t stuck on an older version. And remember, only top-tier flagships with at least 12 GB of RAM will unlock the full Gemini Intelligence experience, though all supported phones still gain the core platform, privacy and camera enhancements.
